Water, enemy to your new tattoo?
While it's important to keep your new tattoo clean, excess water will hurt your new tattoo.
As your tattoo heals, the upper most layer of skin will begin to peel. It's this dying skin that will soak up water like a sponge, and cause the skin to fall off before its time... and it could take some of your new ink with it!
What can I do?
One trick is to put a healthy layer of Bacitracine (or A&D) just before your shower. This will buy you some time, and simply wash it off before you exit the shower to clean your tattoo. Just be mindfull, and remember the better you take care of your tattoo, the brighter and sharper the inks will heal.
Aftercare for your new tattoo
1. Remove the badage after 1 to 2 hours.
2. Wash area with soap and water (NO FACECLOTHES) and pat dry.
3. If there are any small red spots wash them off completely.
4. After completely dry aply thin layer of Bacitracine or A&D ointment, as if you were trying to push it into your skin.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 a couple of times the first day
If the tattoo should happen to scab,
DON'T PICK IT!
The scabs will pull the ink out of the tattoo with it if not allowed to heal properly. Keep ointment on tattoo enough to "keep it shiny" for the first three days(4-5 times per day) Then normal skin moisturizer for the next two weeks.
No direct sun for 30 days.
No swimming pools for 3-4 weeks.
Don't allow the shower to directly pound onto your new tattoo. your new tattoo will some become itchy-this is normal...
Don't Scratch It!! Relieve the itching by gently slapping the tattoo or by scratching the area around the tattoo
Follow these simple rules and you will enjoy your tattoo for years to come. |
